Ramp (skate) parks
Ramp parks in the Redlands are interesting and varied in design. Whether you ride skateboards, scooters, bikes or in-line skates, they offer a variety of challenges for all levels.
Our newest ramp park is at the Redland Youth Plaza on Old Cleveland Road, Capalaba. This is a world-class facility with integrated youth space offering excellent facilities.
Facilities for bikes, blades and boards
We have 11 ramp parks in the Redlands, eight on the mainland and three on North Stradbroke Island:
1. Alexandra Hills
This facility comprises two smooth, well made bowls connected with a spine. The facility is aimed at advanced users. Shade is provided through a new shade shelter, though there are no toilets.
2. Amity Point
Open plan facility comprising several ramp and grind elements suited to both skateboard and bmx riders. Smooth rectangular street style course, uncrowded outside of school holidays.
3. Capalaba
Redland Youth Plaza is a street style-park offering a range of street and vert experiences- something for everyone. It is the largest skate space in South East Queensland. 100m street run plus a 6 to 8 ft bowl. 11-2 stair set ups with rails. This multipurpose public space also has shade shelters, a major performance stage with 3 phase power & event infrastructure, a large lawn court, and a redeveloped Rage Cage for ball sports. Toilets located nearby. Lighting till 10pm.
4. Cleveland
An open plan facility with a combination of grind blocks, quarter pipes, rollover, wedge banks and simulated downhill rail. In 2011, we should see the asphalt replaced by concrete and some newer features and toilets installed.
5. Dunwich Skate, Cunningham Road
A cubed bowl forming a spine leading into a wedge bank with a small sub-box. Some grind rails and ledges also form part of the mix. A tight set up covered by shade sails.
6. Mt Cotton
An open plan facility that encompasses a good range of grinds, rollovers and ramps particularly suited to skateboarders. Popular on weekends.
7. Point Lookout
A modern design with a focus on two capsule bowls with coping which provide great flow, especially for skateboarders. There is also a small street section with a single grind block and toddlers’ bank. Quiet outside of school holidays.
8. Redland Bay
A grind oriented facility with baby mini and decent sized half pipe.
9. Thorneside
This facility is located within the grounds of Mooroondu Park. It comprises a low-skill concrete grind block, pizza slice and mini half-pipe facility with dirt jumps. Good for beginners.
10. Thornlands
Very popular park after recent extensions and the installation of a shade shelter. Super smooth concrete with a range of street and bowl features. Can get crowded after school and in holidays.
11. Victoria Point
Small park with good flow, boxes and quarters. Good shade but has poor drainage in wet weather. Due for rectification work in 2011-12.
